Originally envisioned as a one-off studio project for singer-songwriter Matthew Julian, The Speedways became a full band just weeks before their legendary first gig, at the Some Weird Sin Pump It Up Powerpop Weekender in summer 2018. The debut album “Just Another Regular Summer” showcased as deeper, more personal take on the powerpop genre than their contemporaries, with their self-styled “Ronettes punk” blending elements of Tom Petty, Phil Spector and the Exploding Hearts within 12 unforgettable songs of heartbreak and longing.
